Here are 3 tips to help you learn College English:

  • Always practice – participate in class discussion, be less conscious about grammar mistakes. Professors are there to help you out, even some classmates! If you are shy, you can try to practice with a trusted friend and build the confidence to speak the language.
  • Make time – Set at least an hour a day to study English. If you are an international student, you are required to have a certain level of proficiency to be eligible in a school in British Columbia. You can review your materials and you can also further your proficiency by enrolling in a communications enhancement course.
  • Read – social media is helpful to learn the vernacular in a certain place. Add your classmates on social media and see how they talk. This exercise will help you balance formal English learned in school and informal English for casual conversations.
