PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Business Administration Diploma Program is designed to develop students’ understanding of various functional aspects of business and commerce. The program provides learners with the opportunity to develop their analytical, problem-solving & decision-making skills through academic courses plus applied lab components. Combined with continuous oral and written communication, and assessment tools, the program prepares graduates for entry positions, which ladder into supervisory/management in a broad range of business environments. These opportunities can be found in domestic & international business that include manufacturing, retail, medical, financial, government, and the tourism and hospitality industries. Students wishing to continue their studies have the potential to transfer their earned credits from this program to other higher learning institutions subject to the admissions policies of the receiving institute.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon successful completion of this program, the student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  • Analyse basic business issues and apply techniques to solve non-complex problems
  • Compare the various moral philosophies that make up ethics
  • Demonstrate confidence and competency with communication skills and team-working skills appropriate in a given context
  • Demonstrate knowledge of environmental concerns facing Canadian businesses
  • Demonstrate the ability to research and prepare academic papers at the undergraduate level
  • Evaluate critically the theories on business management and apply them to business scenarios
  • Evaluate the impact of increasing globalization of business-on-business decision-making
  • Recognize the interdisciplinary nature of business administration and proactively apply appropriate skills
  • Solve dilemmas by using ethical solutions
  • Understand the Canadian economic systems, concepts and application including global implications
  • Research, establish a consultancy partnership, and maintain communication throughout the project, including proposing a monitoring and audit strategy, documenting progress, conducting a final assessment, and engaging in professional networking to enhance the consultancy process and personal growth.
  • Develop and deliver a well-structured speech by determining a clear speech goal aligned with audience needs, adapting content based on audience characteristics, gathering relevant information from credible sources, and organizing material to ensure clarity, accuracy, and persuasiveness.
  • Exhibit professionalism in virtual and in-person business settings, including making a positive first impression, using appropriate communication etiquette, managing business logistics, maintaining a professional digital presence, and navigating social events effectively.
  • Explain how businesses create and follow a strategy by understanding their goals, analyzing competition, and making long-term plans.
  • Describe how different leadership styles affect people, and how good leaders help others accept and adjust to changes in a workplace.
  • Identify the main human resource tasks such as hiring new staff, providing training, and helping employees grow within the company.
  • Explain how to find a good business opportunity and describe the basic steps needed to start and run a small business successfully.
  • Describe how businesses use tools like websites, social media, and online ads to attract customers and grow their brand.
  • Explain the steps of design thinking—like understanding users, brainstorming ideas, and testing solutions—to solve business problems creatively.
  • Describe how to plan a simple research project by collecting, analyzing, and using information to help a business make smart decisions.
  • Understand common financial terms and learn how to read simple financial reports to check how well a business is doing.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible for admission, applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Basic Admission Requirements

  • High School Completion: Applicants must have a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
  • Age Requirement: Minimum 19 years of age.
  • Mature Student Status*: Applicants who have not completed high school and are at least 19 years of age, may apply as a mature student.


*Mature student status may be granted to applicants who are over 19 years old and have not completed high school or equivalent. The applicants will be considered for admission based on the skills and experience they have acquired since leaving school. The applicant is required to provide the most recent transcripts or proof of academic accomplishments, a resume or summary of professional accomplishments, and two professional letters of recommendation. The applicant may be interviewed by the Registrar’s or Academic office to further assess their suitability for admission to the program of study.

2. English Language Proficiency

Applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Minimum scores from accepted English tests (e.g., IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 46, Duolingo 95, etc.).
  • Recent English proficiency test (within 2 years).
  • Proof of English-language education: 2–3 years of secondary or post-secondary education completed in English in eligible countries.
  • International credentials must be recognized by WES, ICES, or IQAS.

 

COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS

To successfully complete the program, students must meet ALL of the following requirements:

  • Achieve a minimum grade of 50% on each course’s final examination/presentation
  • Maintain a minimum attendance rate of 80% for all scheduled courses
  • Obtain a minimum overall grade of 70% in each course to pass
