Intro to Malware Analysis and Response

Malware is everywhere and the industry is desperate for people who can track the hackers. In this course, you will learn about the various types and categories of malware, their symptoms, and how they work. As an incident responder, it is imperative that you are able to properly dissect malware. In this course, you will learn how to perform the basics of dynamic malware analysis, a tried and true method of understanding what an unknown binary (malware) is doing on an infected system. You will learn the tools, tactics and techniques malware analysis use in there every day job.

Intro to Security & Forensic Tools

The field of digital forensics and cybercrime investigation is expanding rapidly. The ability to develop software solutions to handle problems in these areas is of paramount importance in the continued success of these techniques in court proceedings. This course examines the means by which forensic tools are developed. Students will progress from basic programming, to the development of large-scale forensic solutions. As the ultimate aim of every case is its successful prosecution in a courtroom, students will see how the forensic tools are tested and validated using scientific methodologies, thus ensuring that any evidence acquired through the use of these tools will be admissible in court.

Basic – Computer Crime and Digital Evidence

This 10 module program will introducestudents to the more common criminal offences in which a computer or network is the tool, target or place of thecrime. Students will gain an understanding of the creation, movement and storage of digital information in an information technology infrastructure, the methodology used to obtain digital evidence andthe legal requirements involved in the search and seizure of such evidence. The course will deal with the various methods utilized inthe tracing of email and web site postings as well as the search and seizure of the evidence in the preparation for a criminal prosecution. On completion of the course the student will know how to recognize common computer crimes and locate the source of digital evidence. The student will also gain an understanding of the search and seizure requirements during the course of a criminal investigation involving computer crime.
