PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Airport Operations Diploma Program is designed to enhance the skills of individuals currently employed at local, regional, and international airports across Canada, the United States, and around the world. This program offers an excellent opportunity for these workers to elevate their technical competencies and improve their knowledge of airport administration and business practices. Additionally, the program serves as a valuable resource for those who are not yet employed in the airport sector but are interested in pursuing a career in airport operations. By participating in this program, students will gain the essential skills and insights needed to excel in this dynamic and rapidly evolving field.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Demonstrate understanding of fundamental concepts related to airside operations, security, and safety management systems (SMS) within the airport environment.
  • Interpret and apply relevant aviation laws and regulations to ensure compliance in airport operations, including safety and security protocols.
  • Assess existing airport safety and emergency preparedness plans, identifying strengths and weaknesses to enhance overall effectiveness.
  • Analyse human factors that influence aviation safety and apply strategies to improve human performance in various airport operations.
  • Employ effective communication strategies within an aviation context, including crisis communication, customer service, and operational coordination.
  • Evaluate the economic factors affecting airport operations, including cost management, revenue generation, and budgeting processes.
  • Formulate comprehensive operational plans for various airport functions, including airside operations, terminal management, and cargo logistics.
  • Perform risk assessments related to airport operations and develop strategies for mitigating identified risks.
  • Design and propose customer service initiatives aimed at enhancing passenger experiences in airports.
  • Analyse current sustainability practices in airport operations and propose recommendations for enhancing environmental stewardship and operational efficiency.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible for admission, applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Basic Admission Requirements

  • High School Completion: Applicants must have a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
  • Age Requirement: Minimum 19 years of age.
  • Mature Student Status*: Applicants who have not completed high school and are at least 19 years of age may apply as a mature student.

*Mature student status may be granted to applicants who are over 19 years old and have not completed high school or equivalent. Applicants will be considered for admission based on the skills and experience they have acquired since leaving school. Applicants are required to provide the most recent transcripts or proof of academic accomplishments, a resume or summary of professional accomplishments, and two professional letters of recommendation. Applicants may be interviewed by the Registrar’s or Academic Office to further assess their suitability for admission to the program of study.

2. English Language Proficiency

Applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Minimum scores from accepted English tests (e.g., IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 46, Duolingo 95, etc.).
  • Recent English proficiency test (within 2 years).
  • Proof of English-language education:
    • 2–3 years of secondary or post-secondary education completed in English in eligible countries.
    • International credentials must be recognized by WES, ICES, or IQAS.
